I’ve been involved in events for a long time. MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 inspired me to plan my own 16th birthday and that was my first experience having my hands in every detail of an event process. I even took a cake decorating class to make my own cake. Later in very unglamorous jobs as a catering server in DC and VIP server at the Rose Bowl, I gained more insight into what goes on behind the scenes to ensure an event runs seamlessly and is a memorable experience for attendees.
In LA, the first events I was involved with were live music shows and outdoor film screenings with KAOS Network in Leimert Park. I also supported Sundance’s 2015 Film Festival, local screenings and workshops at Cinefamily, and NEXT Fest at The Theatre at the Ace Hotel DTLA which included the premiere of Kendrick Lamar and Kahlil Joseph’s short m.A.A.d. I’ve been involved in not only the production but the strategy and marketing for the events I’ve worked on. Over the past decade, I’ve produced and marketed numerous events for clients and partners including screenings, concerts, parties, fundraisers, festivals, and conferences.
Additionally, over the past few years I’ve consistently produced in-person and virtual events to bring multidisciplinary artists together under cc, Filmmaker Support Group (both which I founded in 2020) and Cinetheory (founded by dj and filmmaker Ken Lartey in 2020). In 2023, I transitioned to doing more in-person events including a screening of the feature documentary It’s Yours: A Story of Hip Hop & The Internet. The director of that film attended Filmmaker Support Group and we also held a virtual Cinetheory event for the film during its festival run prior to the in-person event. I selected this film because I’m inspired by the DIY ethos it captures and think it can encourage more filmmakers to apply similar actions and approaches to their own work. You can learn more about cc, Cinetheory, and FSG in the COMMUNITY tab.
